What to Expect
No referral is needed for you to visit a chiropractor. The following outlines what to expect when you start chiropractic care at our office.
On your first visit:
The examination on your first visit will involve numerous methods of testing to serve as a baseline for comparison in future and to indicate the presence of spinal dysfunction.
- Specific orthopaedic tests, movements and tissue palpation to reach a diagnosis
- A measure of nervous system function via thermal scans, surface EMG scans and heart rate variability testing
- Concrete measurements of postural imbalances
- You may or may not receive an adjustment on your first visit. This is something that is individual, and must be discussed with the doctor at that time.
Following the first visit, a report of findings will be presented to you. This will include your diagnosis, recommendations and an idea of what a care plan will involve, as well as copies of the data collected. If you have questions or concerns, this is a great time to discuss them with the chiropractor.
What will my care plan involve?
Every case is unique, and there are many different ways of making chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Shawn and Dr. Brenda are each able to mix several styles, depending on what is most appropriate for the person they are working with.
There may also be some “homework” – things you can do to speed the process – such as stretching, core exercises or the use of ice and/or heat. Advice may be given regarding ergonomics, posture, diet or supplementation.
